Disney orders removal of altars that include photos of characters from “Coco”

Some town in Michoacán.- Disney has ordered the immediate removal of all Day of the Dead altars that include photos alluding to its movie Coco .

In the midst of the Day of the Dead season, the mouse company issued a statement warning that the use of images of Miguelito, Dante, or Mama Coco could lead to legal problems for the owners of the houses where the altars in question are displayed.

Celebrate whatever you want, but don’t put our characters on your altars,” the statement tersely declared, before moving on to the legal warnings section.

Using Coco images without permission is a serious offense.

According to the company, dozens of offerings have been detected in Mexico with figures or images from the film, which "constitutes a serious infringement of the image rights of characters belonging to the Disney-Pixar universe, living or dead."

I only put Hector next to my uncle Toño because they look alike,” explained a lady from Michoacán who already received a notification with a letterhead of an enraged Mickey.

There's always a small altar at my house, but two years ago my mom and I decided to make it a little bigger for Day of the Dead (because she was really excited about the movie Coco and all). I never imagined that this year I would be the one making it for my mom. 🥀💔 I love you always. pic.twitter.com/AutyymzS4O

Consistent with its reputation for being inflexible, Disney would have deployed an army of lawyers in search of shrines that violate its trademark, equipped with radars to detect portraits of Miguelito.

All that’s left is for them to fine me for whistling ‘Remember Me,’” lamented an artisan from Oaxaca as he placed a label reading “Not property of Disney” on a portrait of Frida Kahlo.

And to stay up to date: some doctors from the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) mocked a patient, and this is how it went for them on social media .
